Meet the Owner

Hi, I’m Alyssa Hughes, the owner and founder of Safe Haven Dance.

What started as a late-night idea quickly grew into a real-life mission. After teaching Special Education for three years and becoming a mom, my family and I made the decision that I would stay home with our children. Not long after, with a 9-month-old son (Haven) and later a daughter (Frankie), I combined my deepest passions—family, dance, and education—to create what is now Safe Haven Dance: a home away from home for adults who want to move, grow, and connect.

The name Safe Haven was inspired by my son, Haven. His name means peace, sanctuary, and home—and that’s exactly what I want this space to be for every dancer who walks through the door. Frankie and Haven are my whole world, and they are at the heart of why SHD exists.

Our studio is built on self-love, positivity, and community, with dance as the common thread that brings us all together. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced dancer, you’ll find a space here that celebrates your strengths, encourages growth, and allows you to express yourself freely—without judgment.

My mission is simple: to bring lightheartedness, connection, and joy back into dance, and to remind you that your dance journey never has to end. SHD is more than just a dance studio—it’s a community of empowered friends creating memories and building a legacy together.

No matter where we’re physically dancing, my mission will never change: Safe Haven Dance will always be a sanctuary where adults can find belonging, expression, and joy through movement.

Welcome home—I can’t wait to dance with you.
